April Guest Designer, Cathy Lane!

Today we would like to welcome the winner of our March challenge and our guest designer for April, Cathy Lane.

Hi everyone!! My name is Cathy and I’m a scrap-booking addict of epic proportions but then again I think most of us fall into that category.  I live in a little sea-side village off the east coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa. Together, my husband and I run our own construction company. I do the admin and he is out in the field. I share my life with my hubby and seven dogs who are my constant companions and I cannot even begin to imagine my life without them.
I am Mom to a beautiful daughter who is now 25 and godmother to my little niece Isabella and the two of them combined with seven pets are my favorite scrapping subjects.
Whilst scrapping is my number one hobby, I am also an avid reader and I devour one book after the other. I love my kindle and buying books is seriously starting to compete with my scrap-booking budget. If you had to ask me what my scrapping style is I really couldn’t answer that one. I don’t think I have one. I’m pretty much a mood scrapper and I love working with sketches as it gives me a kick start.
I am extremely honoured to be guest designer this month and a huge thank you to the team for having me!

Cathy created this beautiful layout for Debbie's April Challenge: Flowers

The colors are so pretty and Cathy's eye for detail is amazing:

Thanks for joining us this month Cathy!

Guest Designer - Patti Hamil

Today we have a special guest designer, Patti Hamil.

Hello, my name is Patti Hamil. I have been scrapbooking for over 10 years now. I am a wife to a very supportive husband, and Mother to three beautiful grown children. We also have 3 dogs and a 17 year old cat! I live in the beautiful North Georgia mountains. I scrap almost every single day. I am on several design teams that I love and get to share my hobby with lots of “online” friends! The best part of this hobby is the lasting friendships that I have made over the years. I am happy and honored to have been asked to guest design here. Thank you so much for having me.

You can visit Patti's blog, My Pieces of Time here.

Let's see what Patti created for our April Flower Challenge:

Here is the project that I did. Since the theme is "flowers", I used some different flowers of the same color. I also used Marivic's beautiful tag. I added a little strip of the trim to tie it together with the rest of the page. I wanted to work with the beautiful melon color in the trim and flower spray.

Here are some closeups showing a little more detail. Here you see where I added the multi colored Prima blooms and also a rub-on sentiment that went with the title. I also added some "faux-stitching" around the border with my Zig marker.

Here you can see more detail of the beautiful hand-made tag. I just loved these colors!!!

Here you see two smaller blooms with the title. The title sticker is Anna Griffin, Inc. The color was a perfect match!!

Here is one last closeup of the flower cluster. I thought the colors in the photo (our dd when she was little) went perfectly with the colors of the paper and embellishments!

I was so excited to be asked to Guest Design for this month! I enjoyed working with this beautiful tag, and hope I have inspired you to use your favorite colors!!! Thank you for looking!

Flower Tutorial Using Mini Paper Souffle Cups

Hi, it's Marivic here sharing with you what I discovered and what you can do with those mini souffle cups that you see in fast food restaurants. Well, they are great for Ketchup and hot, crispy fries!
Or you can color them and make them into pretty flowers that are so easy to make.

Following Debbie's April Flower Challenge..here's what I made.
I will also make life easier for you. I tried mist sprays in different brands, even the vibrant dylusions..It doesn't work great..Also tried Luminarte, Shimmerz, and Letraset Aquamarkers. It just didn't give me the vibrant colors I am trying to achieve.

The best one to use is this water soluble pastel sticks from Charvin.
They are awesome and very cheap..
So, next time you go to a burger joint, remember to ask for those souffle cups.

Have fun!!

Here I used it with the help of photoshop, I made the flowers into digital elements.

Here's my digi page and my daughter...

And here's another page using our sponsor's (inkido) paper.

Here's a reminder about our challenge...You have less than 2 weeks to
participate.

You can win great prizes from our Sponsors:

And I also have a giveaway on my Blog:

Daddy & Me Altered Picture Frame

Hello once again fellow crafters! Kay here with my take on Debbie's flower challenge for the month of April.

I decided to alter a wooden picture frame that I've had in my stash for a good number of months now.  I bought a few of these wooden frames at my local craft store Michaels for $1.50.  These wooden picture frames are a crafters dream.  They're plain wood so you can paint them, use crackle medium on them, stain them or just adhere designer paper to them which is what I decided to do for this particular frame.

I've used one of Inkido's designer papers from their 'Beautiful Memories' collection to decorate the background of my frame.  Inkido also happens to be one of our sponsors for this month!

This would be my husband & my son on a lazy Sunday afternoon.  I captured my son's vibrant smile in this one & felt it was quite frame-worthy.  :-)
Here's a view of my frame from the side standing up.  I'm trying to figure out if I want this displayed at my house or in my office cube at work...hmmm.  I'll just have to give it some thought...
The butterflies seen on my frame were hand cut from one of Inkido's designer paper.  This collection has several images of lovely butterflies, flowers & birds that can be fussy cut & used as embellishments for your projects.  I further dressed up the butterflies by applying a bit of Black Diamond Stickles to the bodies.
This peacock I've had in my stash for a few years now.  It just so happened that it came handy for this particular project.  This is why us scrappers never throw anything out!  I'm sure many of you know what I mean by this **wink wink**
Here's my cluster of flowers which is for Debbie's flower challenge.  If you're not sure as to what exactly is this month's challenge--read all about it here.  I used a combination of felt, mulberry paper & organza ribbon flowers to decorate my frame.

Home Made Rub On Tutorial By Debbie

Hi Debbie here today to share with you how I made the rub on title for my April Challenge layout:

Sometimes I don't have the perfect alphabet to match my layout, or it may be just a matter of how much space there is on my layout.  I love the vintage look of Inkido's Beautiful Memories papers and wanted my title to tie in with the papers so I made my own rub on title.
It's really easy and here are the steps for creating your own rub ons:

1.  I used Photo Shop Elements to type my title. The font I used is called JoeHand2.
Lots of free fonts on this site:
http://www.dafont.com/joehand-2.font

2.  Next, I flipped my title horizontally:

3.  I used a plastic wrapping from a paper collection to print my title on.
Cut out a piece of the plastic wrapping large enough to cover your title
and tape it down to your paper. Place your paper in your printer try and print.

4.  After your title has printed make sure that you let it complete dry.
I let mine sit for about an hour.
5. Remove the plastic wrapping and place it  face down on your layout and use your rub on tool or a wooden popsicle stick and rub your title.
Remove the plastic wrapping and there you have it!
Quick and easy!

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial!

. . . Debbie
